The music performance program prepares students for graduate study and for employment as a professional musician. Requirements include completion of the music major curriculum and courses that are listed below:

Pre-Professional Programs
Recommended general education courses for one year at Northwestern:
Choose one general education course: 4
- Fine arts option under general education
- Natural science option under general education
- Philosophy option under general education
- Social science option under general education
Total credits recommended: 8
Recommended general education courses for two or three years at Northwestern:
(For students not planning to recieve the B.A. degree at Northwestern) Choose two general education courses: 8
- Fine arts option under general education
- Philosophy option under general education
Choose one course: 4
- Natural science option under general education
- Social science option under general education
Total credits recommended: 18
Recommended courses:
- Class or private instruction in major area of performance 6
Choose 6 credits from the following: 6
(One credit must be a Literature course) Total credits recommended: 18
Notes:
Students take MUS325 twice; the first recital in the junior year or after four semesters of study. Vocal majors must substitute MUS217, Vocal Pedagogy for MUS312, Counterpoint; and MUS218, Vocal Diction for MUS398, Directed Study. |
