Music Performance

The music performance program prepares students for graduate study and for employment as a professional musician. Requirements include completion of the music major curriculum and courses that are listed below:

Pre-Professional Programs


Recommended general education courses for one year at Northwestern:

  • Philosophy option under general education
  • Social science option under general education

Total credits recommended: 8


Recommended general education courses for two or three years at Northwestern:


(For students not planning to recieve the B.A. degree at Northwestern)

  • Class or private instruction in major area of performance 6

Notes:


Students take MUS325 twice; the first recital in the junior year or after four semesters of study.

Vocal majors must substitute MUS217, Vocal Pedagogy for MUS312, Counterpoint; and MUS218, Vocal Diction for MUS398, Directed Study.
