The Northwestern College-Washington dual-degree program

Northwestern is affiliated with Washington University in St. Louis in offering a dual degree. A student in the dual-degree program spends three years at Northwestern College and two years at Washington University. The period at Washington University would be two and a half years if an Engineering Cooperative Experience were included.

The student will receive a B.A. degree with a chemistry major or a math major from Northwestern College and a professional B.S. degree in engineering (biomedical, chemical, civil, computer science, electrical, mechanical, or systems science and engineering) from Washington University upon completion of the combined program. Students in a dual degree program with Washington University may choose to receive their Northwestern College degree at the end of four years if all Northwestern College requirements have been completed, or may choose to receive both degrees upon completion of the entire program.

Transfer to Iowa State University or other universities

Students can transfer to other universities for completion of their engineering degree. Such transfer usually occurs after spending two years at Northwestern. Special consideration is given to students who plan to transfer to Iowa State University as the program at Northwestern College is carefully coordinated with the programs in engineering at Iowa State University through the advising process.

Students interested in transferring to a university other than Washington University or Iowa State University should obtain a catalog from the university of interest. They should then confer with the program director as the second step in the planning process after the first semester registration is completed.
